AcroYoga is an art form of playfulness, strength, flexibility, and trust. Like a social dance, partners work together with practice, patience, trust, and a sense of fun to create beautiful flows of poses. In this workshop, you will learn the foundations to build such flows. You will learn clear safety standards to progress and play without injury as well as methods for communicating with partners on how to progress together. You will take away beginning poses, transitions and exercises to improve your strength, stability, and flexibility. Whether you have experience in acro or not, you will try and experience joyful new activities.

Bring together AcroYoga and the ancient Japanese art of Shibari.
In Japanese, “Shibari” simply means “to tie”. The contemporary meaning of Shibari describes an ancient Japanese artistic form of rope bondage.
Shibari style rigging creates geometric patterns and shapes with rope that contrast beautifully with the human body’s natural curves. The ropes and their texture provide contrast to smooth skin and curves. In Shibari, the model is the canvas, the rope is the paint and brush, and the rigger is the rope artist.
The aesthetic arrangement of ropes and knots on the model’s body in Shibari rigging emphasizes characteristics like sensuality, vulnerability, and also strength.
You have learned through you AcroYoga practice interpersonal skills of trust, communication and holding safe space for another.
Bringing in this new dimension of artistic rope bondage will build on those skills and deepening your connection with your partner as one of you partially or completely immobilizes the other and performs basic Acro positions from this new posture.
Safety is paramount. Nowhere in your practice will safety and the need and use of spotters be more important. We will be partially to fully immobilizing our flyers eliminating their own natural ability to save themselves. Spotters in the class will be integral to the learning experience.
You will learn basic knots, techniques to immobilize limbs and decorative ties to add an additional dimension of beauty and artistry to your practice.
This is an intermediate level class. It is expected that you know and have a high level of mastery over basing and flying beginner positions such as front bird, throne, high flying whale, and star. You will also be expected to have a high level of experience with spotting these basic positions.
We will spend the first portion of class learning knots and ties and practicing these on each other. The second portion of class we will begin to experiment with taking these new skills and applying them to our AcroYoga practice.
Wear clothes that you can comfortably move and do yoga or Acro in.
